Jacksonville internet cafe robbed at gunpoint

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– Fish Games and Arcade Spot on Roosevelt Boulevard is the center of a robbery investigation.

We have have learned little about the suspect at this time only that he was wearing all black.

Some people say that, even with security cameras, more needs to be done to protect customers and workers.

“Do you think there should be more security at internet cafes? It sounds like there should be if we’re going to leave them open, but as far as I’m concerned, I would like to soon see them closed down,” said neighbor Carole Morris.

“I think they all should be gone,” Cornell Benjamin agreed.

The city has deemed businesses like this a nuisance.

It wants all of them to shut down by early next year.

The city couldn’t say if this one had permission to stay open.

Since last month, the city has shut down more than a dozen internet cafes that don’t have a permit to operate.

Fish Games and Arcade Spot was not on the list.

A city spokesperson says that’s because it could have a certificate of use meaning it could stay open for an additional six months.

An employee at a nearby businesses tells me she worries daily about robberies, adding that this internet café has been robbed before.

Neighbors agree.

“I never really hear anything good come from them,” Morris said.

“What the City Council needs to do is work to get casinos here,” Benjamin added.

Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at (904) 630-7600.
