Robbery at internet cafe in Belleview Florida

The incident took place at the Lucky Lady Internet Cafe at 5713 SE Abshier Blvd. at 1:52 a.m. Sunday.

BELLEVIEW – An internet cafe here was the scene of a shooting and an attempted robbery early Sunday, according to officials with the Belleview Police Department.

According to a BPD report, the incident took place at the Lucky Lady Internet Cafe at 5713 SE Abshier Blvd. at 1:52 a.m. Sunday. A 22-year-old man was shot in the back with a handgun during the incident.

It was unclear if the victim was an employee. Officials said the injury was non-life-threatening.

According to Police Chief Terry Holland, the shooter is still at large.

The report states the suspect was clothed in a gray hooded sweat shirt, dark gray sweat pants, black gloves and white sneakers, and had a black covering over his or her face.

In recent weeks, the Belleview City Commission has been working on a final draft for a proposed law regulating internet cafes in the city and voted last Tuesday to move the proposal forward.

Police and city officials have complained the cafes are causing problems, including an increase in reports of robberies, alcohol-related disturbances, nuisance complaints and parking hassles. The ordinance will come up for a final public hearing and vote during the commission meeting set for Oct. 16.

Anyone who has information on the incident Sunday can call the BPD at 245-7044 or Crime Stoppers at 368-7867.
